Minton Secessionist Vase.
This vase belongs to the Secessionist series, created in the early 20th century by the Minton factory. The arrival of Leon Solon at the company in the late 1890s, followed by his collaboration with John Wadsworth, brought about a decisive renewal of the firm's aesthetic vocabulary. Together, they introduced influences from continental Art Nouveau and the Vienna Secession into the company's production, giving rise to a bold and resolutely modernist line.
The model we are presenting, decorated with stylized foliage, is distinguished by its green, red, and white colors, highlighted by a tube-lining (or relief paste-on-paste) decoration, a technique emblematic of the series. This motif is attested to in the early years of Secessionist production: a model with a similar decoration—but a different shape—appears in the 1902 Secessionist catalog, demonstrating the diversity of variations offered by Minton on the same decorative theme.
