Trained at the Beaux-Arts in Dijon, Legrand followed the teaching of Rops in Paris, where he learned the different techniques of engraving. He illustrated numerous magazines, was awarded a medal at the 1900 World's Fair and also exhibited at the Samuel Bing Gallery.
