Description
The kiss, sculpture in enamelled stoneware by Alfred Boucher, published by Emile Muller & Cie.
Born into a family of artisans, Alfred Boucher studied at the Beaux-Arts in the studio of Paul Dubois and exhibited at the Salon des Artistes Français in 1874, becoming second prize winner of the Prix de Rome the following year. Founder of the artists' town La Ruche, he discovered and became the mentor of Camille Claudel.
Besides his numerous marble sculptures, he collaborated with the Manufacture Nationale de Sèvres and Goldscheider. Muller et Cie reproduced his works, including the bust of Diane which was presented at the Salon des Artistes Français in 1896.
The publisher, Emile Muller, developed his particular technique, called Muller stoneware, which was a great commercial success. After his death in 1889, his son Louis took over the company and multiplied the collaborations with famous artists, such as Constantin Meunier, Félix Fix-Masseau or Toulouse-Lautrec.
